2025 High School / CEGEP Teaching Award Winners

The CAP and its award partners - Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, TRIUMF, and the Institute of Particle Physics - are pleased to announce the recipients of the 2025 CAP High School/CEGEP Teaching Awards. Recipients will be presented with their awards at their school, the CAP Congress, or some other mutually-agreed upon event, as coordinated with the recipients.

The 2025 CAP Award for Excellence in Teaching High School/CEGEP Physics (British Columbia and Yukon) is awarded to

Brant Churchill, North Peace Secondary School, in recognition of his ability to provide an exciting and engaging environment for his students and, in particular, for his impact on rural and remote students by providing learning opportunities that are rare in the north.

The 2025 CAP Award for Excellence in Teaching High School/CEGEP Physics (Prairies and Northwest Territories) is awarded to

Philip Goldthorpe, Edmonton Public School Division, in recognition of his ability to inspire students to be “Lovin’ the Physics” and encouraging them to be independent lifelong learners, earning him a reputation of being a “physics teacher of generational talent”.

Mark Chiasson, Halifax West High School, in recognition of his accomplishments, particularly his focus on modernizing his class, and for his commendable community service..
