The Canadian Association of Physicists (CAP) is pleased to announce that the 2023 CAP Award for Excellence in Teaching High School/CEGEP Physics (Atlantic) is awarded to Amanda Craig, Gonzaga High School, in recognition of her significant positive impact on students through cultivating supportive class communities and providing opportunities for student enrichment. Amanda has built collaborations with Memorial University of Newfoundland, worked to improve provincial curricula, and currently teaches the only AP Physics course in the province. announcement

Ms. Amanda Craig is known as kind, welcoming and inspiring teacher who presents the topic of Physics in an enjoyable manner. With her creative and adaptive teaching style that emphasizes hands-on problem-solving, Ms. Craig delivers her curriculum in ways that accommodate all learning styles. She teaches the only Advanced Placement Physics course in the Province, and her students are exceptionally well prepared for the study of Physics in post secondary studies. Outside of the classroom, Ms. Craig promotes students’ interest in Physics and Science through science fairs, the CAP Physics exam, and research lab tours. Ms. Craig is a leader in Physics and Science program development, provincial assessment and teacher professional development in Newfoundland and Labrador.

A graduate of Physics from Memorial University of Newfoundland, Ms. Craig has been teaching High School Physics in Newfoundland and Labrador since 2005. She is currently employed at Gonzaga High School in St. John’s. nominator citation
