Jeff Goldie has the ability to instill critical thinking within his student – he inspires the capability to think for oneself. As one of his students has said, “If you have a question that you can’t find the answer to, go to a teacher. If that fails, try the internet. If that doesn’t work then go ask Mr. Goldie. If he doesn’t know the answer, it’s because it is being addressed at CERN.” Jeff Goldie is perfect for this award in that he is a teacher who has made permanent differences in the lives of his students. The CAP Award for Excellence in Teaching High School/CEGEP Physics, which was introduced in 2010, is intended to recognize excellence in teaching physics in Canadian high schools or CEGEPs and to encourage and promote physics at the high school/CEGEP level in Canada. The award is sponsored by the CAP, Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, TRIUMF, the Institute of Particle Physics, and the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC. medal description
