The Canadian Association of Physicists (CAP) is pleased to announce that the 2015 CAP Award for Excellence in Teaching High School/CEGEP Physics (British Columbia and Yukon) is awarded to James Strachan, Kelowna Secondary School, in recognition of for his ability to motivate students to levels of high academic achievement using innovative and instructional strategies. With his work in Science Teachers LSA, his encouragement of students in the "Art of Physics" contest, and his mentoring of students in the Young Innovator Scholarship competition, his educational leadership in and out of the classroom is exemplary. announcement

Dedication, depth of knowledge, and a knack for motivating students with his quick sense of humour and his passion for physics is what Jim Strachan has brought to his teaching career at Kelowna Secondary School for the past 21 years. He is a consummate professional whose passion for physics and more importantly, learning, is modeled every day for his students. To quote an administrator with whom Jim has worked, "One of the greatest joys of being a school principal is the opportunity to work with exceptionally gifted teachers such as Jim Strachan".
