The Canadian Association of Physicists (CAP) is pleased to announce that the 2025 CAP Award for Excellence in Teaching High School/CEGEP Physics (British Columbia and Yukon) is awarded to Brant Churchill, North Peace Secondary School, in recognition of his ability to provide an exciting and engaging environment for his students and, in particular, for his impact on rural and remote students by providing learning opportunities that are rare in the north. announcement

Mr. Brant Churchill has been teaching physics continuously for the past 16 years, primarily in the northern community of Fort St. John, BC. Brant is a highly involved teacher, building demonstrations from scratch, arranging guest speakers, and providing learning opportunities that are rare in the north. Brant's teaching style draws students in and provides an exciting and engaging environment to experience physical concepts and learn about the rules of the universe. Brant serves as the head of the science department for North Peace Secondary, developing new curriculum such as Robotics 11&12 as well as Remotely Operated Vehicles & Drones 12.

Brant takes a large interest in the success of his students, taking the robotics team to national competitions, organizing local science fairs and taking students to participate in the Canada wide science fair. In addition to this, Brant highlights future career opportunities through the maintenance of an alumni wall with short captions and photos of past physics students and their current career paths. Brant is held in high esteem by his colleagues as a gifted teacher, mentor and active member of the community. His colleagues highlight his leadership in professional development and his love for disc golf, having lobbied for and built the city's only disc golf course. nominator citation
