"Receiving the Boris P. Stoicheff Memorial scholarship is not only a recognition of my research contributions, but also serves me as a reminder of the importance of the human and social sides of academia. I hope to keep prioritizing this humanity as I continue my academic journey." winner quote
The Canadian Association of Physicists (CAP) is pleased to announce that the 2024 Boris P. Stoicheff Memorial Graduate Scholarship is awarded to Everett Patterson, University of Waterloo, in recognition of creative insights into the application of relativistic quantum information to determine the temperature of black holes. announcement
Everett is pursuing a PhD in Physics with a specialization in Quantum Information at the University of Waterloo's Institute for Quantum Computing. His research explores the intersection of quantum and gravitational theories through the lens of Relativistic Quantum Information (RQI). Outside of his research work, Everett is actively involved at many levels of academic governance with the goal of making academia a more accessible environment for all. This work has seen him serve on departmental and university-wide student groups in addition to university governance. More recently, he has served on the CAP's Student Advisory Council and the Division for Theoretical Physics' executive committee.
Outside of Academia (or as close to outside as he gets), Everett has been a leader of the University of Waterloo's Ultimate Frisbee club, overseeing its restructuring, and has been involved in various community outreach and education programs. nominator citation
