The Canadian Association of Physicists (CAP) is pleased to announce that the 2024 CAP Award for Excellence in Teaching High School/CEGEP Physics (Ontario) is awarded to Tasha Richardson, TDSB, in recognition of her passion and dedication in teaching physics, particularly her use of physics education research and hands-on experiments that connect students’ observations to the underlying physics concepts and theories. Additionally, Tasha’s mentoring support of pre-service teachers and her efforts in producing teaching resources about equity, diversity, and inclusion in STEM also make her a deserving recipient of this award. announcement

Dr. Tasha Richardson is a physics educator focused on open inquiry approaches in the classroom and the use of digital technologies. She incorporates equity, diversity, and inclusion in her classes and has the students reflect on who is and is not present in the physics curriculum. She is the co producer of teacher resource videos with the Ontario Science Centre on equity, diversity, and inclusion. She produces educator resources and is a champion of gender equity in STEM. Doctor Richardson is a mainstay at educator conferences and recently shared a resource she co-produced on grade nine earth and space science presented at OAPT Conference in 2022. nominator citation
